Dry Needling involves the application of acupuncture needles into tight painful myofascial areas known as ‘trigger Points’ to elicit a healing response in these tissues. Dry Needling is different to traditional acupuncture as it is not necessarily aimed at specific acupuncture points, does not usually involve Meridians or relations to internal organs as does traditional acupuncture needling. Dry needling has been proven to be a very effective way of relaxing muscle spasms, reducing inflammation and relieving pain. At Nowra Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic dry needling is generally used as an adjunct to treatment rather than as a treatment on it’s own.
